The writers’ groups have been going for three years. From small beginnings, there are now two groups each with a slightly different emphasis. Both groups work to a schedule of topics and tasks suggested by group leaders and by the members.
This group concentrates more on what to write while the Tuesday afternoon group concentrates more on how to write. Discussions take place in a friendly and positive manner.
The aim is simply get people writing and enjoy the process. Topics range from recounting our own life experiences to simply letting our imagination run free. Sometimes what we do can be challenging, hopefully interesting, occasionally sad, but always funny. We would look forward to welcoming new members.
From small beginnings we are now twelve strong and, with support and encouragement from the library staff, have continued to meet in the library on the second and fourth Friday mornings of the month. We work to an agreed programme made up of topics suggested by the group, which will have interest and appeal for everyone. Of course they are not without their challenges but that makes it all the more interesting.
Work is read aloud and all are encouraged to participate even though it may be a little scary at first. We are always amazed at the way in which each topic produces a wide variety of responses and usually results in laughter, very occasionally tears. At the end of each session we have a ten-minute exercise which stretches the brain even further but the aim is to have fun and enjoy the participation.
